Having a USA green card is indeed wonderful as it provides you with the opportunity of working and living in the USA indefinitely. Basically, you will be considered no less than any regular citizen of the USA and receive all benefits and privileges as that of a USA citizen.

However, applying for a USA green card is a lengthy, tedious and time-consuming procedure filled with many formalities. And you might not want to get your hopes too high because the risk of your green card application being denied remains high. Statistics has it that around 6% to 50% of green card applications get denied and only around 69% turn out to be successful. The reasons for being denied an USA green card are many and sometimes you may be denied for one or several reasons. Let us delve deeper into the various reasons for which a USA green card application may be denied.

Presence of health problems

In order to receive a USA green card, you need to first pass a medical and fitness test which will be performed by a government approved doctor. If you do not pass this medical test, your USA green card application may be denied. Common instances of green card application failure due to health problems is if you have been diagnosed with a communicable disease dangerous to public, fail to take or provide documentations of having had certain important vaccines such as Covid-19 vaccines, MMR and Polio vaccines and you refuse to take those vaccines even at the point of approving your green card then your green card application may be denied. Also, if you have a serious physical or mental health disorder that is a threat to the public and yourself and also if you are a drug addict you may be denied your USA green card application on the grounds of not satisfying the health check.

Safety and Security Issues

If you are planning to apply for a green card, you need to ensure and convince the authorities that you will not be requesting entry to the USA to engage in or encourage any acts of violence that may violate the safety and security of the USA and its citizens and surroundings. Your green card application may be denied if you have been found to be involved either directly or indirectly in any form of terrorism, genocide, supporting the Nazis or totalitarian parties that may harm the USA. You also cannot be involved in any sabotage, espionage and violation of any USA laws and regulations nor take part in any acts to overthrow the USA government. If the authorities finds you to pose a safety and security issue to the government and people of USA then they may deny your green card application on these grounds.

Issues for immigration violators

If you have entered the USA via illegal means such as sneaking in a stowaway, abusing the visa process, misrepresentation, failed to attend immigration removal proceedings then there are high stakes for your USA green card application to be denied.

Criminal record related problems

If you have a criminal record then there is chance that your USA green card application can be denied. Those who have criminal records with Multiple crimes, crimes of moral turpitude and certain specified crimes like money laundering, commercial vice, drug trafficking and prostitution may be denied a green card for the USA.

Failure to attend immigration appointments

Applying and obtaining your USA green card is a lengthy process with lots of meetings, interviews and appointments. A few key appointments like the fingering printing appointment and interview appointment with officials cannot be missed and in case you are unable to attend at the given date and time, you will have to reschedule it. Failure to attend these appointments can lead to denial of your green card application.
